Location: Manning Valley

September 26, 2010. Yesterday, I took a drive out to Old Bar just for the hell of it. It was a beautiful spring day and I got the guilts about wasting it, sitting here at home pumping and grinding on the keyboard. Bluey went well considering she hasn't done many miles lately, so it was an opportunity to give her a bit of an Italian tune-up. Besides that, I needed to at least get *something* for September before the month vanished into eternity.

Old Bar is so named because it's situated at the mouth of the Manning River. One of two mouths, actually. The other is further north at Harrington. There's a dirt road that runs from the main beach back towards the mouth. A couple of side-tracks provide access to sections of the beach which are not patrolled and have no infrastucture, but are popular for serious surfers. At the mouth, there's a park area and an ideal location for kite-surfers, as I discovered. It's also a popular spot for picnickers, canoeists and fisherfolk in small tinnies.
